Flights

We understand that booking flights can sometimes feel like the trickiest part of preparing for your trip. To make things easier, we’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions about flights below.

Airline pricing can be unpredictable — fares change constantly as airlines maximise their revenue, which can be frustrating for travellers trying to secure the best deal.

Our advice is simple: once you find flights that suit your budget and schedule, book them without waiting too long. Seats are limited, and last-minute fares are often the most expensive.

If you’re travelling over Christmas or New Year, we strongly recommend booking as far in advance as possible.

Adventure Proud does not book international flights between your home and your destination. However, we’re happy to offer guidance and recommendations.

Because our travellers have different preferences when it comes to airlines, departure cities, cabin class, and loyalty programs, we encourage you to book flights that best suit your own needs.

For searching, we find Google Flights and Skyscanner to be the most useful tools. Once you’ve found a suitable option, we recommend booking directly with the airline wherever possible for the best support if changes arise. While reputable online travel agents (OTAs) like Expedia can sometimes offer good fares, it’s best to avoid lesser-known OTAs with poor reviews, as they may advertise low prices but provide little assistance if problems occur.

Your trip’s starting and finishing locations — along with the recommended airports — will be outlined in the detailed welcome email you’ll receive after registering. This email will include the suggested arrival airport for the beginning of your trip, as well as the departure airport for the end.

You’re free to depart at any time on the final day of your trip. As no activities are scheduled for that day, you can book your return flight for whichever time suits you best.

You’ll need to book your own international flights to get to the starting point of your trip and to depart from the final destination. For example, if your trip begins in Bangkok and finishes in Siem Reap, you’re responsible for arranging those flights to and from Asia.

Any flights that take place during the trip are included in your itinerary and will be arranged by Adventure Proud.

Most Adventure Proud trips begin at 4:00pm on Day 1 of the itinerary, so we recommend arriving with enough time to check in and get settled before meeting your group.

Your exact meeting time and location will be confirmed in your welcome email, as well as in the 90-day and 10-day update emails you’ll receive before your trip begins.

Yes. Based on your departure city, we’re happy to suggest suitable airlines or commonly used routes. You’re also welcome to contact your local travel agent for further guidance if needed.

We always recommend arriving at least a day before your trip begins. It gives you time to adjust to the time zone, recover from long flights, and avoid stress if there are any flight delays or cancellations. Plus, you’ll start your trip feeling refreshed — and with a little extra time to explore.

Adventure Proud can often assist with booking pre-trip accommodation at the group hotel, and we’re happy to provide advice on transport and additional activities if you’d like to make the most of your early arrival.

Many Adventure Proud travellers choose to extend their stay to relax or explore further after the trip. If you’d like to do the same, we’ll let you know which hotel the group is staying in and provide details on how to book additional nights there.

Delays do happen. If you arrive after the official trip start time, please contact us immediately and we’ll provide instructions on how to meet the group.

Once your trip has begun, you’ll also have access to the group chat (shared in your 10-day pre-trip email), where you can notify your trip leader directly. Your leader will then help you reconnect with the group, wherever they may be.

We don’t have specific travel agents we recommend for booking flights. However, your local travel agent should be able to assist with finding and arranging suitable options.

For all Adventure Proud trips, you must have insurance that covers emergency medical care overseas. In addition, we strongly recommend purchasing a comprehensive policy that also covers unexpected flight cancellations, delays, trip interruptions, baggage issues, and in some cases even pre-trip cancellations.

Having comprehensive cover helps protect your travel investment and gives you extra peace of mind.

In some cases, it can be difficult to add frequent flyer numbers to group bookings in advance. We recommend adding your loyalty program details directly to your ticket at the airport when you check in.

If you’d like to know whether your program partners with the airline you’ll be flying with, it’s a good idea to check the airline alliance information in advance.

In most cases, you’ll pass through customs and immigration when your flight first arrives in a new country. However, there are some exceptions. Certain countries have agreements in place that may require you to complete the process before boarding your flight instead.

For the most accurate information, we recommend checking your government’s official travel and immigration website for entry, exit, and visa requirements before you travel.

Connection times vary depending on the airport, but most require between 45 and 90 minutes. To be safe — especially if you need to recheck your bag — we recommend allowing at least 90 minutes between flights.

Of course, flight schedules can change, and delays do happen. If you miss a connection, contact your airline as soon as possible so they can advise you on the next available option.
